IONA ZAJAC SUMMER
To put the true beauty of Scottish songstress Iona Zajac's into words will almost always be doing it a disservice. New single 'Summer' is proof of this. Arriving at the top of a sold out tour in support of Alison Moyet, the striking piece is a sombre tear-jerker that places Zajac's flawless vocals front and centre. Cradled by intricately plucked guitar work, the harrowing lyricism evokes a deep and painful longing, as she explains: "It is a song for those dreaming of better days, of wars to end, of lovers to return, of heads to leave the fog. And when Summer finally comes, we might have found enough strength from the bad to make it last." Alongside her solo efforts, Zajac will perform as a guest vocalist with The Pogues on their upcoming anniversary tour for the iconic Rum, Sodomy & the Lash. Having played a crucial part in their roaring Red Roses For Me concerts last year, it's apparent to us that there is no one quite like Iona Zajac. It's her world and we're all just living it. -Holly Mullineaux
